Chatting with Eleanor O'Neill

Photo from Study 34 website.

Last week I had the pleasure of meeting and talking with Eleanor O'Neill, whom is the creator of Study 34. Study 34 includes Ellie's sustainable knitwear pieces (new batch coming soon) and her blog, which is linked to the Huffington Post UK. I have been subscribed to Ellie's blog, and monthly newsletters, for a while now and am so grateful for all of the fantastic information she posts. I have found many interesting resources through the newsletters and exciting brands through each post! I would highly recommend subscribing.

I reached out to Ellie last week and we met for coffee. I feel lucky that she let me pick her brain about sustainable fashion, greenwashing and blogging. Here are some take-aways:

Greenwashing is a reality in the fashion industry but is a nuanced situation. We must support the change that is happening throughout the industry HOWEVER, always continue to question.

•In order for companies to be truly ethical/sustainable they need to have those practices as part of their core values. A successful, responsible, business is built from the ground up with those concerns in mind. Fast fashion retailers are having a hard time changing their ways because they are trying to add these values on top of their business model. If there is going to be real change seen then things need to be dismantled and re-built.

•Be consistent, be genuine and slow down. It's always more effective when you take a moment to think before you act.

It's not every day that you get the chance to chat with someone so genuine and generous – thank you Ellie for your time and wisdom!

Check out her website Study 34 to get in on the good-ness!
